Learn Guitar Chords - Are You Struggling to Change Between Chords?
Now that you’ve got your first guitar how do you get started playing it?
The first thing you need to learn are guitar chords and unfortunately getting the hang of chord changes can be a frustrating experience.
Using just a few simple tricks though can save you hours of wasted effort and practice.
How To Build Your Finger Strength
When I first started playing guitar I had the craziest teacher.
The weirdest thing he ever told me to do was to practice my chord changes while wearing a pair of skin tight leather gloves. At the time I thought he was nuts, but now I know there was method in his madness.
As you can imagine it is extremely difficult to play a clean chord when you are wearing leather gloves. In fact, you need a ridiculous amount of finger strength to even fret the notes.
I don’t know if wearing gloves appeals to you, but it worked for me, and in a short time my finger strength increased dramatically.
Playing With Rhythm
Once you start building finger strength you need to start looking at the way you actually play rhythm.
Some people have a very natural almost flowing style; others tend to fight the fret board, making more work for themselves.
All you have to remember to master guitar chord changes is that you only need to lift your fingers from the fret board by a couple of millimeters to make a chord change.
Don’t waste precious seconds lifting your fingers too high or removing them from the neck entirely.
Simply stop fretting the current chord by lifting your finger tips enough to stop the note sounding and then move to the new chord shape.
