Why You Should Buy a Used Guitar

Buying a used guitar has many advantages over buying a new one no matter if you are an experienced player or a beginner, or even if you are considering taking up the guitar and have never even owned a guitar before.

In this article we will talk about some of the reasons a person might buy a used guitar and some of the benefits of having a used one. The most obvious reason people buy a used guitar is the price. A used guitar will generally cost less than half of the original price.

This is perfect for a person who has never had lessons before since if they end up not continuing with the guitar they won’t have wasted a huge sum of money. You should also be aware that the price range between guitars is huge. Brand new guitars can cost anywhere from about $100 for a cheap, poor-quality guitar, to multiple thousands of
dollars for the best ones.

Therefore beginners who spend a little bit extra on their first guitar can benefit from purchasing a used one since they can buy a better quality used guitar for the same amount of money as a brand new one of lesser quality.

Even though a beginner isn’t as likely to hear the difference in quality as much as an experienced player might, learning with a decent quality instrument makes learning a far more enjoyable experience. You will definitely be a lot less inclined to give up as well.

So it doesn’t matter what position you are in, all beginners should at least consider buying a used guitar. There are also many other advantages owning a used instrument has. Things often improve as they age, and guitars are a perfect example of this. As long as it has received proper treatment and care, it will have some qualities that brand new ones just don’t have.

Used guitars have had a long enough time to soften up. All this means is that the wood has had long enough to “break in”, making the guitar produce a more rich and mature sound. The overtones produced will also be far more mature than those of a new one. This process can take years even with daily playing.

This mature sound produced by a used guitar is something you will miss out on if you choose to buy a new guitar. Like many other things, if you buy a new guitar its value will depreciate, or become lower, over time.

Some older guitars, however, especially if they are out of production and more rare, can actually go up in value, or at least maintain their value. This isn’t really a good enough reason alone to buy a used guitar since there is no guarantee that a it’s value will go up, but it is something important to remember.

Your guitar could end up being a good investment along with the other advantages of having a used guitar.

In conclusion, it doesn’t matter who you are or what stage you are at in your guitar playing career, if you are considering buying a guitar, buying a used one is an option you can’t ignore.
